OUR VALUES

Collective Ownership & Decision-Making

Our community thrives when everyone has a voice. We support shared ownership, participatory governance, and local control over land and resources.

Accountability, Transparency & Trust

We build trust through open communication, shared responsibility, and by strengthening local skills and leadership within our neighborhoods.

Sustainability: People, Planet, Property

We plan for the next century—not just the next year. Our work prioritizes environmental stewardship, long-term affordability, and development without displacement.

Innovative & Just Systems

We pursue alternative economic and land-use models that support continued learning, creative problem-solving, and flexible approaches to change.

High Quality of Life

We use best practices and community-led planning to protect what matters—ensuring our neighborhoods are safe, vibrant, and supportive environments where all residents can thrive.

We build on the legacy of the CLT founders, strengthening relationships, working together to create a connected community. We are guided by best practices and policies to protect and empower our community, ensuring it remains strong and sustainable for future generations.

Community Wisdom, Solidarity,
& Protection

Civic Engagement

We are committed to an active and invested community. We put this into action by caring about what happens in our neighborhoods, working together as problem solvers, preparing CLT members to serve on local commissions and task forces, and advocating for a healthy, livable community for all.

Mindful History

We recognize  that many of today’s challenges are the result of past discrimination laws and practices that disadvantaged and displaced neighborhoods and communities.

Social Justice, Racial Equity &
Fair Access to Resources

We are dedicated to advancing social justice and racial equity by balancing individual needs with community well-being, creating policies that address historical inequities, and promoting cultural diversity. We are also committed to ensuring fair and equitable access to resources, including preserving the affordability of property, so that all individuals have the opportunity to thrive. By confronting systemic injustices and embracing diversity, we strive to build a more inclusive and equitable society.

The SE CT CLT  recognizes that Indigenous people have lived and cared for this region for thousands of years before the setters. Their understanding of land as a shared responsibility, supporting both human and non-human life, stands in contrast with the settler colonial concept of private property.

We acknowledge that the transformation of land into a commodity has brought wealth to some while causing deep harm, displacement, and loss to others. As a Community Land Trust, we hold title to land within this system and recognize the complexity of that responsibility.

We aim to move from extractive ownership models toward community-based stewardship, and we are committed to working respectfully and collaboratively with Indigenous partners to build a more just and sustainable future for land access in Southeastern Connecticut.
